The displayed number is rounded. Classification uses the unrounded BMI, so a result close to a boundary may round to the next category’s starting value.
How to use the BMI calculator for women
- Select metric or imperial measurements.
- Enter your height and weight. For imperial height, enter both feet and inches; use 0 inches if needed.
- Confirm that this adult tool applies to you, then select Calculate BMI.
You can change units without converting the measurements yourself. Review your entries if the result looks unexpected.

How is BMI calculated?
BMI = weight (kg) ÷ [height (m) × height (m)]. The same formula is used for adult women and men.
Worked example
At 65 kg and 1.65 m tall, BMI is 65 ÷ (1.65 × 1.65) = 23.88, within the standard healthy weight category.
What your BMI result can and cannot tell you
BMI offers one starting point for discussing weight and health. It does not distinguish fat from muscle and bone. A healthcare professional can interpret it alongside your history, examination and other health information.
Frequently asked questions
Is a female BMI calculator different from a male calculator?
The standard adult formula and category thresholds are the same. A women-focused page can explain relevant limitations without inventing a separate formula.
Does age change the result?
This calculator uses height and weight only. Standard adult BMI categories do not change with age for adults 20 and older, although clinical interpretation may differ.
Is BMI a body fat percentage?
No. BMI measures weight relative to height and does not directly measure body fat percentage.
Can I use this during pregnancy?
This tool is not intended to interpret weight during pregnancy. Ask your maternity care team which measurements are appropriate.
What should I do after calculating my BMI?
Use it as one piece of information. If you have concerns about your weight or health, discuss the result with a qualified healthcare professional.
Understanding the additional result details
Reference weight interval
We rearrange the BMI equation to calculate the weights corresponding to BMI 18.5 and 25 at your height. This is a mathematical reference interval, not a personalized ideal weight.
Weight per BMI point
At a fixed height, one BMI point corresponds to height in meters squared, expressed in kilograms. For example, at 1.65 m tall, one point equals 2.72 kg, or about 6.0 lb. This explains the equation; it does not prescribe weight change.
Nearest category boundary
The result shows the closest cutoff among 18.5, 25, 30, 35 and 40. Being close to a cutoff does not mean your health suddenly changes when you cross it.
Sources and methodology
The calculator uses the standard BMI equation and the adult category thresholds listed by the CDC.
